What is an ABF?
| Adult | ABFs are intended to be for college age and up, usually divided by age group or life stage. |
| Bible | Each Sunday there will be teaching, discussion, and application of the Word of God to daily living. |
| Fellowship | ABFs "major on" relationships and caring love. |
An ABF is more than a Sunday School class; it's like a mini-congregation. It's a place where everyone is made to feel welcome and the relationships are as important as the learning.
Each ABF is led by a team rather than a single teacher. And even though we provide a broad life-stage description of who might be expected to be in each group, we hope you will find the group where you feel most comfortable, and where you would like to bring your friends.
What distinguishes the Adventurers ABF from the others?
First of all, we have a website! Oh, OK, that only makes us different from most of the others. So, what else is there? Well, for one thing, we're a collection of individuals with children middle-school age and older. But having kids isn't a requirement. There are a few of us who don't have kids but like hanging out with people who do. Our focus is on fellowship, with small- and large-group discussions of the issues playing a big part of our Sunday learning environment. The teaching and spiritual aspects of our fellowship are designed to be very interactive, and everyone contributes to our learning and understanding. Prayer, scripture and Christian worldview are woven into every discussion.
We meet in the church's Narthex (a/k/a foyer or entryway), which has its plusses and its minuses, but for the most part, we like it. We do LOTS of fun activities outside of Sunday morning (see our activities page). And we like to think we're some of the friendliest people around, although to be really honest the other ABFs are pretty friendly, too. But we definitely have the best snacks!
A typical Sunday morning would go something like this:
- 10:25 or even a bit earlier: arrive and enjoy coffee, snacks, and visit with each other
- 10:45 or so: take a seat, welcome, announcements, sharing and prayer
- 11:05 - 11:45: someone leads a very interactive discussion topic
- 11:45-11:50: wrap up, break up, fellowship some more or go get kids, etc.
