Pat came to the Upper Valley with her soon-to-be husband Todd in 1991. On their first visit to Valley Bible Church, our former pastor, Eli Mercer, delivered an abbreviated version of the autobiography of St. Augustine, wearing a toga. Pat and Todd agreed Valley Bible Church merited a second visit. These many years later, they consider VBC their church home and its congregation their dearly loved church family. Pat comes to the committee with skills in administration, project management and analysis, gained through her years in the business world and work as a software designer and programmer.

Ray Book
Ray first came to Valley Bible in 1973, back when it was called the Bible Baptist Church. Over the years, he has fulfilled many roles at VBC, including deacon, missions treasurer, and the church treasurer for 12 years until 1985. He worked at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Clinic for 38 years in the clinical laboratory, with 27 years in a supervisory role. In 2000, Ray bicycled 4200 miles from coast to coast. Many of us remember his discussions of padded bicycle seats and pants! In 2001 he married Rebecca Young. Ray's financial background led to his being asked to oversee the expenditures for the building project.

"My family and I started coming to VBC in 1989. Eli Mercer dressed up as some prophet that day, if I remember correctly. So much has changed in our family since then. In the early 90s I served as a deacon for a year or so. Throughout this time, I have been a plumber at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Clinic. I am currently the evening supervisor in the Engineering department. I enjoy the outdoors, guns, and holding babies, and I serve as a volunteer at DHMC in the intensive care nursery. God is currently expanding my territory just as I asked Him to. I hope someday to minister to people in a Third World country, or to Native Americans, using my plumbing and building skills. My goal is to live to glorify God and die well."

Mike Lavalla
Mike moved to the Upper Valley from Springfield, Vermont, in 1990 with his wife, Diane, and three children, Angie, Scott, and Craig. Before Springfield, they lived in Aurora, Colorado. Mike worked for the town of Hartford for 13 years as the Director of Public Works. He has had the same title in Lebanon since July 2002. His background in construction and savvy about permitting has already been a wonderful help to the committee, and will no doubt only increase in value as we progress toward the construction phase of the project!
