The Missions Committee at Valley Bible Church exists to glorify God by spreading a passion for God's call to reach the nations with the Gospel. We serve as a conduit between VBC and missionaries we support - both at home and abroad - and desire to serve Christ by faithfully presenting the global work of the Gospel to our congregation.
John Stott once said:
"I pray that these words, "all the families of the earth," may be written on our hearts. It is this expression more than any other which reveals the living God of the Bible to be a missionary God. It is this expression too which condemns all our petty parochialism and narrow nationalism, our racial pride (whether white or black), our condescending paternalism and arrogant imperialism. How dare we adopt a hostile or scornful or even indifferent attitude to any person of another color or culture if our God is the God of "all the families of the earth"? We need to become global Christians with a global vision, for we have a global God."
Our prayer is that God would move by His Spirit to shape us into a people who glory in and engage with God's work whether that's right next door or across the ocean.
If you are interested in learning more about missions or feeling prompted by the Holy Spirit to consider being sent (either long-term or short-term), it would be our joy to come alongside you and serve however we can. If, on the other hand, you simply have a passion for seeing VBC grow in our wonder of the global plan of God, we would love to talk to you about how you can serve with us.
Short Term Missions
Periodically, Valley Bible Church sends a mission team to assist in one of our supported ministries.
In June and July 2012, fifteen adults and teens from our congregation went to Nicaragua to serve at Campo Alegria in Rivas. For background information on their trip, click here. And for details, visit their team blog.
In April 2009, six members of our congregation went to Northwest Haiti to work with Pastor Evantz Marc, who is planting a church in LaBrousse. For pictures of the trip, click here
Every year, students and adults from VBC go to Guatemala with teams from Mid Vermont Christian School, to help with construction and teach Bible classes at a school in the mountains. For pictures of the 2009 trip, which included nine people from VBC, click here
The Missions Committee also coordinates occasional church-wide Missions Conferences. Keep a watch on this site for events and dates.
